11 APRIL 2011: day 101 (week 15)

i cooked something i used to eat when i was a kid. i learned this recipe from my dad. i believe during his time they had to discover different ways to cook the crops they grew. my dad calls it 'marihuya'... it is made of kamoteng kahoy or cassava. we grate the cassava, add sugar and then it is ready to fry in very little oil. this is just one way of cooking this root crop. you can also just boil this and when it gets really tender, dip it in sugar and grated coconut(...that is also so good!). and of course you can also make it into the famous cassava cake.
anyway, here is my marihuya!!

the last time i tasted this was about 20 years ago.

i saved some for my kids to taste when they get home. i was very excited to explain to them what it was. but they weren't as thrilled as i was. anyway, i guess they have different tastes.

after dinner, we had ice cream!! the kids were so excited to have ice cream because of the cones... hehehe.
